JD Vance slammed after posting controversial meme hinting he'll deport iconic ‘menswear guy’ on X

The VP concealed his threat in a meme

JD Vance's response to a fashion critic's story has sparked outrage on X.

The Vice President has become the focus of viral memes and controversial headlines, from the chaotic White House exchange with President Zelensky to dividing opinions about dating apps.

But his latest social media move has people genuinely angry rather than amused.

Vance is facing serious backlash after appearing to threaten deportation against a popular X user who poked fun at the White House politician.

The user in question goes by 'derek guy' or 'menswear guy' on X, where he's built a massive following by roasting public figures for their clothing choices.

Vance has been a frequent target of derek guy's fashion critiques.

The menswear expert previously called out the VP for wearing pants that are 'too slim,' jackets that 'don't hug him very well' and ties that serve as nothing more than a 'distraction.'

However, on Sunday (8 June), derek guy posted an emotional thread about his family's immigration story, revealing details about his background that he usually keeps private. He explained how his family fled the Vietnam War and how his mother brought him from Canada to the US as a baby without proper documentation so they could reunite with his father.

"I’m still unsure whether we technically broke an immigration law. The border between Canada and the United States was pretty porous (as it is today, for the most part)," the 'menswear writer' posted on X. "But either way, since I came here without legal documentation, I eventually fell into the category of being an undocumented immigrant.

"Yet, I’ve been in the United States since I was a baby. My identity and roots are very much based in this country, no different from anyone else."

He used his story to criticise the Trump administration's immigration policies as 'inhumane' and encouraged people to support pro-immigration groups and consider career paths that could help those facing deportation.

After derek guy's vulnerable post went viral, X users began tagging Vance in the replies, with one tell him he has the 'opportunity to do the funniest thing ever.' In response, Vance chose to respond with a GIF of Jack Nicholson from the 2003 film Anger Management nodding 'yes' menacingly.

Social media users quickly caught on that Vance was suggesting he might deport derek guy, essentially using his government position to threaten someone who had criticised his fashion sense.

The timing is particularly problematic given the Trump administration's ongoing immigration raids in Los Angeles, which have sparked counterprotests and opposition about mass deportation policies.

Safe to say, the response to Vance's meme has been overwhelmingly negative.

"Do more of this. It's your only skill," one X user sarcastically wrote.

Another unimpressed user commented: "That guy was calling for there to be peace, a wildly unpopular stance among the left and this is your response?"

On Reddit, an online user summed it up with: "VP hints at deporting anyone who makes fun of him," while another suggested: "Let's deport JD and keep Derek."

Not one to back down from an online threat, the menswear guy replied with images of Vance wearing particularly ill-fitting suits, adding the comeback: “I think I can outrun you in these clothes."
